FIVE STRING banjo fits very well in folk, country and especially
BLUEGRASS music (e.g. “Duelling banjos” from the film Deliverance)
or Foggy Mountain Breakdown (as per Beverly Hillbillies).
Bluegrass Banjo is played with fingerpicks on and is all about
picking out melodies. FRAILING or CLAWHAMMER banjo is played in
what’s known as “Old Timey American Roots music” where you can play
with picks or perhaps just with your fingers. It’s a slightly
different style but has similarities to Bluegrass banjo. The banjo
is a harder instrument to learn if you want to play fast Bluegrass
but that hasn’t stopped the thousands of people worldwide who play
it.
TENOR BANJO is mostly used in Irish Music and played with a
plectrum on a FOUR STRING banjo. Completely different tuning and
technique from 5 string banjo.
I can get you started on either and teach you all about chords and
the framework of songs/tunes which are enhanced with a banjo
