DOUBLE BASS
LESSONS Age 12 upwards ![]() james.powells@sky.com |
The double bass adds so much to acoustic music,
in particular Bluegrass or Folk where the music is usually played in
public acoustically . It is actually one of the easier instruments
to learn as it is generally thought acceptable for the Double Bass
to play uncomplicated alternating bass note accompaniment to songs
and tunes. Instrumentalists don’t want the bass competing with
them. I would expect someone to pick up Double Bass and be seeing
real progress within a few weeks. The basic chord structure which I would teach you for folk, country or bluegrass could then be extended to other music which may appeal to you. Many “amateur” Double Bass players play in a simplified fashion using just one or two fingers of their left hand to fret. There is no reason why you shouldn’t do this and it will be very effective. We can discuss either this method or the fuller “classical” style which would be of interest to someone who wanted to take their music to a much higher level. Either way, I can get you started on the way with the first steps in getting to know your fingerboard and chord theory. Double Bass players are welcomed in sessions !! so you’ll be in demand and with the right amount of practice on your part, you should definitely be able to learn the Double Bass. |
